WEST Director Ian Pepper awarded Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Ian Pepper, Regents Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, will be celebrated for his achievements and contributions to his profession at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Annual Awards event on May 6, 2023. Dr. Pepper began his career at the University of Arizona in January 1977, and has been an innovative researcher, impactful teacher, and invested mentor to his students. He is the Director of the UArizona Water and Energy Sustainable Technology (WEST) Center and Co-Director of the National Science Foundation Water and Environmental Technology (WET) Center. He is an environmental microbiologist whose research has focused on the fate and transport of pathogens in air, water, soils and wastes, and his expertise has been recognized by membership on six National Academy of Sciences Committees.

Dr. Pepper is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Microbiology, the Soil Science Society of America, and the American Society of Agronomy. He is also a Board Certified Environmental Scientist within the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. He is the author or co-author of eight textbooks; 40 book chapters; and over 163 peer-review journal articles.

In May 2023, Dr. Pepper will receive one of the most prestigious awards bestowed by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Eugene G. Sander Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to Ian Pepper, this year's honorees include Elin D. Miller, James O'Haco, and Joseph (Fred) Oliver.
