WEST Students and Members Recognized at 2019 AZ WateReuse Symposium

University of Arizona WEST members and students were well-represented at the Arizona WateReuse Symposium this July 28-30.  Held in Flagstaff, AZ, the three-day event brought together Arizona water professionals for “an exchange of information and experience related to water reuse planning, implementation, and operations.” 

The symposium was organized by WaterReuse Arizona and the AZ Water Association Reuse Committee, and this year included speakers from both Arizona and other regional states such as Utah and Nevada.  It also provided important networking opportunities for participants as well as the announcement of annual awards and scholarships.

While the event is held in northern Arizona, the Tucson-area water reuse community garnered attention and recognition.  The Project of the Year award was earned by the Town of Marana – a WEST Center member and neighbor – for their Water Reclamation Facility Recharge Project. The two scholarship winners were also University of Arizona students, one conducting her research at the WEST Center.  The WateReuse AZ Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship with a $2,500 cash award.  2019 winners are Neha Gupta, a PhD candidate in Hydrology, and Mallory McMurray, a Master’s degree student in Chemical Engineering.
