University of Arizona (UA) WEST members and students were well-represented at the Arizona WateReuse Symposium this July, 2019.

In a recently-published study, UA researchers – including several from WEST Center – used new technology to demonstrate a highly sensitive and field-applicable method for detecting viruses in water.

Working with UA faculty Dr. Kerri Hickenbottom, staff and students at WEST Center explore waste stream minimization and energy use efficiency through two inventive projects. 

A visit to WEST Center by DRI's Dr. Maureen McCarthy sparked discussion around the application potentials of water/energy technologies in dispersed settlements, and possibilities for cross-institutional collaboration.

The International Desalination Association (IDA) announced today that UA WEST Center has been selected as the Host for the 2019-20 IDA Fellowship Program.  A call for applications is open until July 30, 2019.

Congratulations to Tenzin Phakdon, a first year PhD student in Environmental Engineering, for receiving the 1-year Sustainable Bioeconomy for Arid Regions (SBAR) graduate fellowship.

With irrigation water safety as a goal, an ongoing study at WEST Center uses a sediment flume to measure how pathogens move from sediment to water.

In a new film from One World Network, WEST Center faculty, along with other UA researchers and Tucson-area specialists, explain challenges at the Food, Energy, Water Nexus, and share how University of Arizona research is finding collaborative and innovative solutions for the future.

Dr. Ian Pepper, faculty in the Soil, Water and Environmental Science (SWES) Department and co-founder of WEST Center, was recognized as an Extraordinary Faculty of the Year for his achievements and service to the University of Arizona.

Timed to celebrate World Water Day, WEST Center and partners at the west side Water Campus piloted the new Tucson Citizen Water Academy on March 22, 2019.  Thanks to Flowing Wells High School for their great participation!
