On March 22, 2022, researchers from around the state of Arizona, utility representatives, and other stakeholders convened in Phoenix for the 2022 AZ Water Association Research Symposium. The annual symposium is the AZ Water Association’s signature event highlighting water research that addresses issues impacting water professionals in the state. Attendees learn about cutting edge water-related research undertaken at UA, ASU, and NAU as well as gain understanding of water utility needs as they manage resources and provide a critical service for the state’s future.

At this year’s event, researchers from UA WEST Center were well represented and awarded! Along with colleagues from other institutions, Dr. Andrea Achilli presented on the topic, “Academic Research directly/indirectly benefiting Arizona water utilities.” Dr. Luisa Ikner participated in a panel discussion focused on “Bridging the gap between research done at academic institutions and research needed by Arizona Water Utilities.” Additionally, Dr. Kerri Hickenbottom was a co-organizer of the event, coordinating many aspects of the day’s program including posters and awards.

During the awards presentation, WEST Center staff and students were recognized for their considerable and ongoing contributions to water research benefiting the state of Arizona. Awards won by UA WEST-affiliated individuals included:
