Researchers Provide COVID-19 Guidance to Water Industry

Thursday, April 23, 2020

Performing essential services, water industry professionals are employing extra safety precautions and continuing to work during COVID-19 shut-downs. COVID-19 information can help keep these professionals safe.  Individuals in these operations are additionally in a unique position to help with future research, contributing to methods that may predict and prevent future pandemics.

To provide guidance for the industry, the fact sheet entitled “Implications of COVID-19 for Water, Wastewater, and Water Reuse” was drafted by contributing research authors from Southern Nevada Water Authority, University of Arizona, University of Notre Dame, North Carolina State University, University of California Santa Barbara and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

The Fact Sheet answers the questions:

What is COVID-19?

What do the ‘superbug’ characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 mean for water/wastewater/water reuse?

What are the implications of wastewater detection of SARS-CoV-2?

How can water/wastewater/water reuse agencies get involved?

The Fact Sheet - released April 6, 2020 - is a three-page document, packed with researched and practical information. The full document can be read below.
